Newborn and baby photography for families in Bedford
A calm, baby-led newborn session, forty-five minutes east past St Neots, with a parking space at the door.
Bedford has good newborn photographers of its own, and I would not pretend to be the nearest. My studio is in Papworth Everard, about forty-five minutes east: out past St Neots on the Cambridge road, north at the Caxton Gibbet roundabout, and into the next village. The car stays outside the door.
What brings families from Bedford is the kind of photograph. My style is simple, organic and timeless: no baskets, no headbands, no props competing with your baby — just your baby, as they are, and the details that will have changed by next month. If that is what you are looking for, forty-five minutes is worth it.

The session itself
It is baby led from start to finish. I never put a baby into a position that is not natural and comfortable for them, and the morning goes at their pace: we stop for feeds, for changes and for cuddles, and we carry on when they are ready. You have a sofa, and older brothers and sisters have a playroom.
Most Bedford babies are born at Bedford Hospital. The best weeks for newborn photographs are the first two or three at home; if they have already passed, nothing is lost — I have written about photographing babies at six weeks.
Families driving from Bedford usually want the morning to count, so the Classic Newborn Collection — up to two hours, with room for the family — is where I would start. The Total Newborn Collection adds a short heART Fusion film to every photograph; the Mini Newborn Collection is the one-hour version. Everything is listed, down to the last file, on the prices page.
Outdoors, closer to home
For family and maternity sessions outdoors, I would rather come to you than have you drive twice. Three places around Bedford I would suggest:
The Embankment. The Victorian riverside along the Great Ouse, with its suspension bridge and long lawns under the trees. Best on a summer evening, when the river goes still.
Priory Country Park. Lakes, river and meadow on the east side of town, with space for small children to run and water for the light to bounce off.
Wrest Park, at Silsoe, twenty minutes south. English Heritage gardens, long formal walks and a baroque pavilion at the end of the water: the place I would choose for a maternity session in early summer.
Wrest Park wants to know about professional photographers beforehand, which I arrange; the travel is added to your quote.
Questions from Bedford
Forty-five minutes each way is a long trip with a newborn. Is it worth it?
Only if you love the photographs — so start with the portfolio. If you do, the practical side is easy: main roads the whole way, a parking space at the door, and a studio that is warm and ready before you arrive.
Can you come to Bedford instead?
Yes. For newborns and babies I can bring the session to your home in Bedford; the travel cost comes with the quote.
Do you photograph older babies and first birthdays?
Yes: baby sessions when your baby can sit, crawl or stand, and a cake smash for the first birthday.
When you have seen the portfolio and would like a date, tell me when your baby is due. Get in touch.
